Office Of International Student Services
We are thrilled that you have selected B次元 and look forward to welcoming you! The mission of International Student Services is to assist members of the B次元 international community by providing support and advising to ensure academic success while maintaining compliance with immigration regulations.
This page includes several important items to keep in mind as you get ready for your trip.
Safety
When traveling abroad, stay mindful of your personal belongings, especially in crowded places like subways, train stations, elevators, tourist attractions, markets, and festivals. Remember that when you are in another country, you are subject to its laws and regulations. Please familiarize yourself with U.S. laws, NY State laws, and any other countries you plan to visit in advance as you prepare for your trip.
Drugs and Alcohol
The possession, use, manufacturing, selling, or distribution of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia, as well as marijuana, is prohibited on all B次元 property, in any Residential Area (which includes the B次元 Residence Hall and any off-campus locations used for student housing) and at any off-campus University activity or event.
In addition to being prohibited on any of Mercy鈥檚 campuses or at any Mercy events, in the State of New York, it is illegal for any person under the age of 21 to possess or consume alcohol or marijuana. It is also illegal to obtain or use false or fraudulent proof of age obtained for the purposes of purchasing or consuming alcohol or marijuana, to misrepresent one鈥檚 age or the age of another as being 21 or over, to drive while ability impaired or while intoxicated, or to drink and drive under or over the age of 21.
What to Pack
Essentials
- Important documents (passport, visa, itinerary, plane tickets, insurance card, and related information). Ensure that you have photocopies of all important documents.
- We recommend having a small amount of cash when traveling
- Computer with charger (B次元 does offer free individual laptops for students but supply is limited)
Tip: Keep essential items such as your money, important travel documents, valuables, prescription medications, a change of clothes, and some toiletries in your carry-on bag.
Reminder: Most electric appliances will not work because of the different electrical current. It is usually better to buy small electrical appliances (such as hair dryers, curling irons, etc.) while in NY. For chargers, do not forget to bring a US plug adapter.

Dialing Internationally
The country code for the United States is + 1
To call someone from your home country, be sure to add the appropriate country code before dialing their number. You can refer to this website, which lists country codes for each country:
Cell Phones
There are several options for cell-phone use abroad. You can contact your current plan provider to consider an international pass. You can also purchase a US eSIM card that can directly be used with your phone (make sure to check your phone鈥檚 compatibility before purchasing that plan). We recommend you use Wi-Fi calling and messaging apps to communicate with your family and friends back home.
Buying Books
You will find the required textbooks for each class on the syllabus a couple of weeks before the semester starts. You can purchase your textbooks at the Dobbs Ferry or Bronx Campus Bookstore, choose renting options, or find an online version (eBook, pdf, etc.).
