Miriam S. Gogol, PhD, is a professor of English. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in women and gender, American realism, and American studies. From 2009–2014, she was Dean of the University's School of Liberal Arts. In 1999, she was a Fulbright Senior Scholar to the Czech Republic. Her most recent book, Working Women in American Literature, 1865–1950, is now in paperback. Her book collection, Theodore Dreiser (NYU Press), won a Choice Award for Best Academic Book. Having received her PhD from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Columbia University, Miriam's expertise lies in American literary realism and naturalism; American fiction (nineteenth and twentieth century); and gender and labor studies.
